- Court tells him he could face prison sentence
Former EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy was hit by her ex-fiancé with a slipper when he assaulted her, it has been revealed.
Adam Cottrell, 31, has been told he could face a prison sentence after admitting today at a court in Hertford that he hit her with the slipper and grabbed her by the arms.
He also admitted criminal damage after smashing a microwave, wine glasses and a candelabra at their two-bedroom flat in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire.

Magistrate Jackie Mountford told Cottrell a community sentence could be appropriate but ‘we are not at all ruling out custody at this stage’.
Prosecutor Elaine McMillan told East Hertfordshire Magistrates’ Court that Cottrell twice attacked Miss Cassidy when they were at home.
She said there was a child in the flat during both incidents.
The first occasion was on April 13. Mrs McMillan said: ‘The defendant lost his temper and he assaulted her by smearing her with mascara and striking her with a slipper on the upper leg.’
During the second incident, which took place on May 20, he ‘grabbed her by the arms and he ripped her top’, said Mrs McMillan. She added: 'The aggravating features appear to be that these offences are committed when the defendant has consumed alcohol.'
A second count of criminal damage was withdrawn.
After Miss Cassidy left to stay with her family, Cottrell went on to damage their £190,000 home. The court heard he smashed a £200 microwave, wine glasses worth £100 and a £50 candelabra.
Cottrell will be sentenced on June 21.
Miss Cassidy, 28, who starred in EastEnders from 1993 to 2007 and returned to the soap last year, allegedly split up from Cottrell last week and cancelled their £50,000 wedding, planned for later this year.
She has also kicked him out of the flat she shared with him and their seven-month-old daughter.
Adam Cottrell and Natalie Cassidy were due to get married later this year but it is believed the wedding has now been called off
A source close to the actress, who played trumpet-playing Sonia Jackson in EastEnders, told the Mirror: ‘At the moment she doesn’t want anything to do with Adam and thinks it best if they have some time apart.’
They said that he is currently staying at friends’ houses.
Miss Cassidy's father Charles said his daughter had fled the flat after a furious argument and Cottrell had ‘punched a hole in a microwave oven’ shortly before he was arrested.
Mr Cassidy, 74, told The Sun that Miss Cassidy had stayed with him at his house in Gosberton, Lincolnshire.
He alleged: ‘Natalie and the baby came here, we spent Saturday together and had lunch.
‘On Sunday (May 22) she told him on the phone she wouldn’t be going back and we heard this crash in the background. He’d put his fist through the microwave.’ Miss Cassidy called the police and Cottrell was arrested.
She was seen standing on the balcony of the Hertfordshire flat smoking last week as the news broke about his arrest.
Cottrell's arrest came as a gushing interview with Miss Cassidy was published in Closer magazine, in which she talks about the couple’s spicy love life.
She told the magazine: ‘We (she and Cottrell) are having more sex than ever since we got back from our holiday to Cyprus (earlier this month).
‘But we’re not at it like rabbits. I’ve no time for dressing up in sexy maid outfits!’
A source close to Miss Cassidy told the Mirror: ‘Natalie is absolutely devastated by events.
‘She and Adam had a huge argument and it spiralled massively out of control.
'Her main concern is the welfare of her daughter and, for now, she just wants to keep a low profile and get on with her life until this has all been resolved.’
Miss Cassidy became engaged to Cottrell last May during a holiday in Italy after meeting at the 2009 Isle of Wight festival.
