Death of Amy Winehouse and birth of Harper Beckham top summer Google searches

he death of Amy Winehouse has been the most searched for subject on Google this summer.

Last month's sudden passing of the 27-year-old singer saw hundreds of thousands of Britons swamp the Google search engine to find out the latest news.

The second most looked-up term in the UK was Google's own Google+ social networking service, followed by the Harry Potter website Pottermore.

In fourth place was Ryan Dunn, the Jackass star who was killed in a car accident in June.

Fifth most searched was reality TV show Geordie Shore, followed by the Wimbledon tennis tournament.

Aside from Amy Winehouse, the most popular celebrity search was Harper Beckham, as fans sought out news on the birth of David and Victoria Beckham's first daughter.

David Beckham himself only made it to fifth place, while mother Victoria is at number ten.

Reality TV show The Apprentice topped the television searches, closely followed by Torchwood and Britain's Got Talent.

The big-screen version of television comedy The Inbetweeners was the most popular film search, beating out competition from sequels Cars 2, Transformers 3, The Dark Knight Rises and Harry Potter.

Arsenal was the most popular football search, keeping Liverpool at number two, Chelsea at three, and Manchester United at four.
